Abraham-Louis Breguet was born in 1747 in Neuchâtel. About twenty years later he opened his first workshop Quai de l'horloge in the city of Paris. It was there that he invented the perpetual or automatic watch in 1780.

The Breguet brand will be recognized for its numerous creations. Particularly noteworthy are the lever spring, the Breguet key, the natural escapement without oil and its anti-shock device Pare-chute.

Breguet will become the best master watchmaker of the time. He presented the first wristwatch in history for Caroline Murat, Queen of Naples and sister of Emperor Napoleon I.

In 1970, the brothers Jacques and Pierre Chaumet took over the brand and a new watch workshop was opened in Brassus in 1976
