In 1868 an American watchmaker from Boston named Florentine Ariosto Jones founded a watch factory in Switzerland. In 1885 IWC produces its first digital watch, based on a patent held by Mr. Pallweber. IWC introduces its first wristwatch for pilots under the name MARK IX in 1935. The IWC PORTUGIESER is born in 1939 as a colossal grand timepiece, and in 2015 IWC celebrates the 75th anniversary of the PORTUGIESER family. IWC introduces the grand calibre 5000, a mechanical automatic movement with a 7-day power reserve.
